A procurement specialist or a design engineer reads your website before requesting a quotation. If production capacity, certificates, technical documents and a named contact cannot be found in the first minutes, the company is filtered out before the shortlist is drawn. This page sets out how a manufacturing company website is built to survive that evaluation.

Why is a manufacturing company website a filter rather than a brochure?

Answer

A corporate buyer uses a supplier website as a verification source while narrowing a vendor list. What is checked is not a slogan but production capacity, machine park, certificates, product technical data and who to write to. When that information cannot be found, no further time is spent on the site and the buyer moves to the next supplier.

In manufacturing, a website is not a sales channel; it is a pre-qualification document. The buyer does not intend to spend time on the site — the intention is to reach a decision: can this company do the work, are the certificates in place, is the scale sufficient, who do I write to. The decision itself is taken on a call or in a meeting, but for that call to happen the site has to pass the filter.

This is why visitor count is the wrong measure for a factory website. The measure is this: how many steps and how many seconds does a qualified buyer need in order to find the technical information they came for?


What does an international buyer check before contacting a Turkish supplier?

Answer

An overseas buyer evaluating a Turkish manufacturer runs a due-diligence pass first: legal identity and plant location, certificate scope and validity, product technical data in English, export capability such as incoterms and shipping, and a named person who answers technical questions. Every item that is missing is recorded as risk rather than as a question to raise later.

The asymmetry matters here. A buyer in Germany, the Netherlands or the Gulf usually cannot visit the plant before the shortlist stage and cannot verify claims through a local network. The website therefore carries the whole burden of proof at the first stage. A capacity figure without a unit, a certificate shown as a logo without a number, or a product page that exists only in Turkish all read the same way: unverifiable.

What do manufacturers most often leave out of their own websites?

Answer

The recurring gaps in our audits are consistent: no dedicated page per product, no technical specification table, certificates published as undated images, a document archive excluded from search, an English version that is missing or machine-translated, and a single generic contact form. Each one produces a separate loss of confidence on the buyer's side.

  • Capacity is described, not stated. General phrasing replaces measurable facts such as annual output, number of lines, tolerance range, covered plant area and dispatch capacity.
  • The certificate is a logo, not a record. An ISO or product certificate is placed as an image, while the certificate number, its scope, its validity date and the way to verify it are never written.
  • The document archive is closed. Datasheets and technical drawings are either behind a login or not published at all.
  • The language structure is half-built. The home page is in English while product pages stay in Turkish, and without hreflang the two versions are read as duplicates of each other.
  • Contact runs through one channel. A procurement specialist cannot find the person who answers a technical question, and the generic form carries no response-time commitment.
  • Mobile performance was never measured. Page weight has not been tested for a buyer opening the catalogue from a plant floor or while travelling.

These gaps share one property: none of them is a design problem. They are all information architecture and structured data problems.


Why is the pressure sharper inside an organised industrial zone?

Answer

An organised industrial zone is a planned industrial area whose infrastructure and regulation are managed collectively; in Turkey it is known as an OSB. Firms inside one zone often share the same logistics advantages, comparable certificates and similar capacity. Physical proximity stops being a differentiator, and the decision moves to whichever supplier's technical data is findable and verifiable.

Kocaeli, the province immediately east of Istanbul, holds one of the densest concentrations of manufacturing plants in Turkey. Along the Gebze, Dilovası, Körfez and Çayırova line it is common to find several producers in the same product group, inside the same zone, with overlapping capability. At that density the buyer decides on the only asymmetric information available: whose product data and technical documents were easier to reach.

Who reads a manufacturing website, and what do they look for in the first three minutes?

Answer

Four different roles read the site, not one buyer: the procurement specialist, the engineer who gives technical approval, the export or international sales manager, and the quality and compliance officer. Each looks for different information and decides on a different page. A single Products page satisfies none of the four completely.

The table below shows what each role looks for and which page structure that requirement translates into. It is not a list of assumptions: these are the information items that recur in requests for quotation and in supplier evaluation forms, mapped onto pages.

Answer

Supplier research no longer happens only in classic search results. A buyer can put a technical question to an AI assistant and receive both an answer and a source list. To appear in that channel a page has to be crawlable, parseable and quotable; ranking well in search results is no longer sufficient on its own.

We call the work of becoming the cited source inside answer engines AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), and the work of being citable inside generative engines GEO (Generative Engine Optimization). Both terms are defined separately in the digital visibility glossary.

In practice this means a product page has to meet three conditions: the answer to the question is written in the first sentence, the technical data exists as text rather than inside an image, and the page introduces itself to machines through structured data.

Which combination of services should a manufacturer start with?

Answer

The order is clear in manufacturing: the publishing architecture and the product data are built first, visibility is worked on afterwards. Corporate website, structured data and performance are taken together; SEO, AEO and GEO sit on top of them. Working on visibility while product data is still unstructured is putting an empty shelf in the window.

What must a manufacturing website satisfy technically?

Answer

There are four conditions: product and capacity information must be structured so that it is individually addressable, technical documents must be searchable and permanent, the catalogue must be multilingual and reciprocally mapped with hreflang, and pages must open on a weak mobile network. All four are architecture decisions rather than design ones, and all four are expensive to retrofit.


How is product and capacity information structured?

Answer

A catalogue is built on three levels: product family, product group and individual product. Every individual product gets a permanent address, a technical specification table, material and tolerance data, its related documents and Product structured data. A fourth level holds the technical document record attached to that product.

Capacity is made measurable by the same logic. A sentence such as “we produce in a modern facility” carries no information for a buyer; the number of lines, annual output volume, the material classes that can be processed, the tolerance range, the covered area and the dispatch capacity do. Those values are published as long as they are verifiable — a figure that cannot be verified is not put on the page.

How do technical documents become findable in search?

Answer

PDF files are not dropped into a download folder. Each document is introduced on its own HTML page: title, revision, publication date, the related product and a readable summary sit on the page as text. The PDF text layer must be machine-readable, the file name meaningful, the link permanent and the record marked up with structured data.

The minimum fields of a document record:

  • Identity: document name, revision number, publication and revision dates.
  • Context: which product family and which individual products it belongs to, linked in both directions.
  • Summary: a technical abstract that can be read on the page as text, without downloading the file.
  • File: a PDF with a readable text layer; scanned image PDFs are blank pages as far as search is concerned.
  • Permanence: the address does not change when the revision does, and the previous revision stays as an archive record.
  • Access: general technical data is published openly; documents that contain commercial confidentiality are released through a request form. The decision is yours, and we put the consequences of both scenarios in writing.

One extra rule applies to CAD files: the file format, the unit system and the software version it was produced with are written into the record. An engineer will not download without seeing those three facts.


How is a multilingual catalogue built?

Answer

Every language version gets its own permanent address and is mapped reciprocally with hreflang. Product names, standard codes and units are written in the terminology of the target market. The number of languages follows the export plan: opening pages in a language with no demand, no agent and no sales team produces maintenance load and nothing else.

The difference between translation and rewriting is visible in manufacturing. An engineer who sees a mistranslated tolerance statement draws a conclusion about technical competence within seconds. Product and technical document copy is therefore handled as a rewrite by an editor who knows the field, not as a translation pass.

What does performance require on a weak mobile network?

Answer

Catalogue and document pages are usually opened on a plant floor, on a construction site or while travelling. Under those conditions heavy image galleries, embedded maps and third-party scripts make a page unusable. A performance budget is defined up front: page weight, script size and third-party request count are capped by thresholds that can be written into the contract.

How is the success of a manufacturing website measured?

Answer

Not by total visitor count, but by the behaviour of qualified buyers: quotation form completion, technical document downloads, the indexing rate of product pages, and being cited as a source on technical questions. Alongside those, four infrastructure thresholds are monitored continuously: mobile performance, structured data validity, language mapping errors and accessibility.

What should a manufacturing company website contain?

A manufacturing company website needs at least six blocks: production capacity and machine park, product families with technical specification tables, quality certificates with their scope and validity, a downloadable technical document archive, plant and logistics information, and a direct quotation and engineering contact route. Corporate introduction copy does not replace them; a procurement team decides whether to shortlist the company by checking whether those six blocks exist.

How should a product catalogue be structured?

How many languages should a manufacturer's website support?

The number of languages follows the export plan. English plus the domestic language is the baseline for most manufacturers; a further language is added only where there is a sales team, an agent or measurable demand. Every language version is mapped reciprocally with hreflang. Machine translation that mistranslates a tolerance or a standard code costs more than publishing nothing in that market.

Should production data feed the website?

Stock, price and lead-time data should feed the website only when a single system of record already holds them. An ERP or PIM integration removes the manual update burden and keeps product data consistent across catalogue, portal and app. If the source system is disorganised, the data model is corrected first; automating incorrect data only increases the speed at which the error spreads.

Do you visit factories in organised industrial zones?

Yes. We are based in Kocaeli, the industrial belt immediately east of Istanbul, and hold on-site meetings in the organised industrial zones of Gebze, Dilovası, Körfez and Çayırova. We recommend a plant visit during analysis and content gathering: the production line, machine park and product families cannot be described accurately without being seen. Later phases can run remotely.

Do you work with manufacturers outside Turkey, and how do contracts and invoicing work?

Yes. We work remotely with manufacturers and with the overseas subsidiaries of Turkish producers, and we deliver in Turkish and English. Contracts, scope documents, acceptance criteria and reports are issued in English and meetings are held in English. Invoicing is made from Turkey; currency, payment schedule and phase-based milestones are written into the contract before the project starts.
